The Printing House Limited (TPH) celebrates a third year as one of Canada's Greenest Employers for 2019

TORONTO, April 15, 2019 - The Printing House™ (TPH®) has once again been recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers for 2019.

This special designation is given to Canadian employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness. Winning employers, selected by the editors of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project at Mediacorp Canada Inc., are evaluated using four main criteria: (1) unique environmental initiatives or programs they have developed; (2) whether they have been successful in reducing their own environmental footprint; (3) whether their employees are involved in these programs and contribute unique skills; and (4) whether their environmental initiatives have become linked to the employer’s public identity, attracting new employees or customers.

By prioritizing sustainability in what we do, The Printing House has been able to strategically focus our efforts as a company so that Managers can make better environmental decisions and we all can play a role in raising the bar in our industry and influencing buying behaviour in the marketplace.

Since 1961, TPH has believed that doing the right thing is good for business. “Our process for incorporating social responsibility and sustainability into our operations and decision-making is ingrained into our culture,” says Andrew O’Born, Vice President of Business Development. “We’ve tried to create a portfolio of things that we keep adding to in order to support our environmental initiatives. We’re a family business and we own our own stores, so we have that level of control, if you will. It’s something we believe in wholeheartedly.”

Some of TPH's Green Initiatives include:

  • Recognized as North America’s Most Forest-Friendly Printer in Canopy’s 2018 Blueline Ranking.
  • Commitment to increased use of recycled papers and sustainable sourcing through three forest-based certifications including Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) CoC certification by Rainforest Alliance (FSC-C019596), Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) CoC certification (SFI-00537), and Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC®) CoC certification (PEFC/26-31-15).
  • Corporate partnership (since 2015) with WWF-Canada, and most recently the Living Planet @ Work program, which provides strategic guidance, green business ideas, free tools and support to empower and engage employees so they can drive sustainable practices at work. TPH employees actively participle in events including the WWF's CN Tower Climb for Nature, the Kids' Run for Nature, the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup and The Smart Office Challenge.
  • Each year, three registered Canadian charities are selected as part of TPH’s payroll participation program. TPH matches the donations made by the staff dollar for dollar. The 2018 environmental program chosen was Wildlife Preservation Canada "Planting for Pollinators." For every $3 donated, 1,000 native wildflower seeds are planted to provide nectar and pollen to endangered pollinators.
  • Forest Farmer offsets TPH’s environmental footprint and restores Canadian forests. For each new Corporate Account opened, a tree is planted in a Canadian forest. Over 5,400 trees have been planted so far.
  • Corporate Hive Hosting in partnership with Toronto Bee Rescue. Head Office is home to eight honey bee hives, turning our Head Office roof into a hub for local pollination.
